Moron

According to a police report, 18-year-old James N. P. Miller, of Cincinnati, was seen driving the wrong way out of the entrance to a one-way street at East Park Place in Oxford.

Officers executed a traffic stop and found that Miller was wearing a breathalyzer costume. After investigation, police said, Miller was found to be operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Inside his car, officers allegedly found an open container of Bud Light in the center console.

Officers also found what was left of a case of Bud Light in the passenger side front seat and in the trunk.

The legal limit in Ohio is .08 BAC — Miller tested at .158. He was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (among other violations) and released to his girlfriend.

Knowing is Half the Battle...

If you go to northwest South Dakota, between Meadow and Glad Valley, there you will find the furthest spot from any McDonald's in the contiguous United States, a depressingly local 145 miles by car.

This map was created by Stephen Von Worley, who used location data on the 13,000 plus MickeyD's locations along with some coding-fu to generate the above map. What we see is as expected, a network of the franchises largely following the freeway and highway system and increasing in density in proportion to the population density. According to Von Worley, the furthest you can get from a McDonald's is in the aforementioned prairie wasteland of South Dakota, 107 miles as the crow flies from the nearest set of golden arches. And people wonder why we're a fat nation.

Soda Shop Documentary

John Nese is the proprietor of Galcos Soda Pop Stop in LA. His father ran it as a grocery store, and when the time came for John to take charge, he decided to convert it into the ultimate soda-lovers destination. About 500 pops line the shelves, sourced lovingly by John from around the world. John has made it his mission to keep small soda-makers afloat and help them find their consumers. Galcos also acts as a distributor for restaurants and bars along the West Coast, spreading the gospel of soda made with cane sugar (no high-fructose corn syrup if John can avoid it).

Different Presidents, A Different Corps

This video has received a lot of attention. As of right now, it is showing well over a half a million hits since it was posted on March 1. It is also controversial. Many Obama supporters have claimed to debunk the video by pointing out that the events were not comparable. They argue that the event in Anbar province that President Bush attended in September 2007 was informal. The Camp Lejune event that President Obama attended, on the other hand, was more formal. They point out that it is not fair to compare two events in which the Marines are subject to different rules of behavior.

In fairness, they are correct. The events were different in many ways and the Marines present were subject to different behavioral expectations. There is, however, more to this video than that. If the content of this video were that easily debunked it would not still be drawing tens of thousands of hits per day. The different degrees of formality aside, this video is quite revealing.

In the video, the Marines exhibit obvious love and respect for President Bush. His visit was not an event that followed closely on the heels of 9/11. This video was taken after the worst days of the war and after the surge created major progress in the region. The president is visiting the troops in Anbar Province, the home of the infamous Falluja and Ar Ramadi killing grounds. This visit took place after the province had been pacified. In other words, the Marines showed their love of Mr. Bush even after the darkest days of the war.

The Lejune video, on the other hand, shows Obama entering with all the pomp and circumstance of a royal visit to the peasants. Hail to the Chief plays in the background; something that President Bush didnt allow during his military visits. Obama knows that keeping the Marines locked at the position of attention means that no comparison can ever be made to the loving reception President Bush regularly received from the troops. Obama knows how the Marines feel and will always treat them exactly like the rabble he sees.

This is the real truth of the video and why it is so popular. It warms the heart of Bush supporters to see President Bush receive the love, gratitude and respect of these warriors. It angers Obama supporters because they also see the love President Bush receives and they know their man will never see anything similar from the troops. They know that these warriors loved the last president and will never give similar respect to this one.

A good YouTube video stirs the emotions and this one does that. It elicits different emotions in different people but the underlying truth that is the catalyst for the emotional response is the same for everyone. The Marines loved President Bush in a way they will never love President Obama.

Bears learning new skills...

A bear that got stuck in a skateboard park climbed up a ladder to make its escape. The animal had been stuck in the sunken skating bowl overnight and could not get up the steep-sided concrete walls on its own. Officials in the town of Snowmass, Colorado lowered down a long ladder, which the bear walked across before heading back to the woods. The bear was uninjured by its experience.

Don’t teach the bears how to climb ladders! We need those walls, to separate the bears from our yummy arms and legs. What’s the second part of the plan, coat doorknobs in honey? I’m scared to even turn around right now, one of these new Super Bears may have snuck up behind me.

O me, O my, look what has happened now... Armed Bears... Did anyone read the second amendment? Keep and bear arms, not Keep and arm bears!!! We are all doomed!!!

Really??

According to http://www.friendshipstats.com I have 275 friends, 155 more than average. 57% are male, 43% are female. 41 are single, 176 are dating or married. If I contracted a deadly variant of flu, I would likely infect 11 people, 1 of whom would die. When I share something on Facebook, it is typically viewed by 21 people. If I died today, an estimated 438 people would try to attend my funeral. Based on my Facebook profile, I have a 91% probability of getting married. I am likely to earn US$2.7 million and have 2.3 children over my lifetime.

Fail

Tonight in Texas in the seventh inning, Joe Mauer, our future MVP, hit his 25th home run of the year. The gentleman in the center of the picture, wearing the Vikings T-Shirt, threw the ball back. Now I understand wearing a Vikings T-Shirt, but I don't understand throwing back a ball from a player going to the Hall of Fame. How many times are you going to get a home run ball, much less from a player of Mauer's character and skill. There is only one word for this, FAIL.

Body Language

I have heard about this and had heard the audio, but to see her body language is amazing... I am shocked that this is our U.S. Secretary of State. I would be outraged, but I am just happy as I think the majority of Americans are that she is done for. There hasn't been a Secretary of State who later won the Presidency since James Buchanan did in 1857.

I think that this is the most shocking statement since (28 years ago and 7 Secretary of State ago) U.S. Secretary of State Alexander Haig said "I am in control here"...

Sgt 1st Class John Curtis Beale

This is a moving video of a community's response to the death of a U.S. Army sergeant in Afghanistan. The video runs 12 minutes.

Killed in action the week before, John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time. This was filmed during the procession by a State Trooper.

Freight Train Battles Tornado, Loses

An epic battle of superior strength and endurance ensues as Mother Nature's devastatingly windy beast takes on one of man's most unstoppable forces, a freight train.

While this particular tornado wasn't huge, it did its share of damage to local homes and businesses as it traveled along its 13.2 miles of destruction. This rare January tornado did not let this speeding locomotive out of its sights as it bore down on the tracks, taking most of the trains cars with it.

The windy action begins around the 1 minute mark.

As usual I only have one word for this...A W E S O M E ! ! !

Tornado Rating —- EF3 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale

Maximum winds —- 136 to 165 MPH

Path Length —- 13.2 miles

Maximum width —- Around 100 yards

Independence Day

Today is the fourth of July… For most of the world, just another day. But it is the day in which we Americans celebrate our independence. There are many dates in our history which stick out, September 11th and December 7th are two that come to mind. For others, it is the Kennedy assassination or when one of the Space shuttles blew up. But for any of those other dates to mean anything we have to start with the first one 233 years ago. On June 11th the Continental Congress appointed Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Ben Franklin, Rodger Sherman and Phil Livingston to write a document declaring our independence from England. On June 28th they were done. On July 2nd the congress adopted that resolution and declared independence. On July 4th Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. The war went from 1775 till 1781… with a treaty two years later. It took another few years until September 17th, 1787 when the congress finally adopted the constitution for the dream of the United States finally became a reality. Many dates have made our country great. Some bring up good recollections, and some bring up painful memories. But all of them are part of who we are as a country. With every event good and bad that has taken place in this nations history, a part of us each one of us is there. But the knowledge that we have learned from the pain and happiness of the past has strengthened us to become the nation that we are today. So today Americans, let's celebrate our independence and our freedom. Thank you
